FC Viongozi believes in leading by example. The team intends to embrace sports for Development principle by using football as a social mobilization tool. Environmental cleanliness has already been identified as the key social activity that the club will rally the society around. The Usafi ni Uongozi initiative is all about sensitizing the public to dispose litter and garbage responsibly. The team will adopt up to 3 streets and roads within the Roysambu area to serve as models for this initiative. Working closely with other stakeholders, litter and garbage bins will be installed in strategic places within the selected streets and roads. A sensitization campaign will then follow to ensure that the communities living and doing business along the selected streets and roads do not throw litter and garbage anywhere else other than the designated bins. The specific sensitization activities to be carried out by the team include: 1. A Usafi Ni Uongozi football tournament targeting teams from the selected streets, roads and neighbourhoods. This will also serve as the annual home tournament for FC Viongozi in line with the best practices of professional football. 2. Quarterly clean up exercises targeting the selected streets, roads and neighbourhoods. Already, Lumumba Drive, TRM road and Roysambu Round- about together with the entire Roysambu and Mirema neighbourhoods have been identified as our area of focus for the year 2017. 3. Quarterly sensitization forums where we will engage the residents, business people and other stakeholders of the target areas in discussing the role of patriotic citizens in taking care of their environment. The aim of the forums is to urge residents to be leaders in matters of environmental cleanliness.
